The practice information is part of the Vision® Information System’s (VIS) intranet, which is the practice’s internal resources section.

The practice directory consolidates all the individual telephone books stored by the VNs, receptionists and management within the practice and provides one central source that can be easily updated, amended and referenced at anytime from different areas of the practice.

The practice handbook details all of the practice’s external protocols – instructions on how to make appointments, for example. The practice manual lists the internal protocols of the practice – the practice procedure on handling complaints, staff rotas, details of who is insured on which car, fire safety procedures and health and safety details can be stored within this part of the VIS.

The practice information makes an ideal induction tool for new members of staff. Using the time-saving computerised practice manual, the annual, bank holiday and weekly rotas can be stored on the system and easily viewed and updated. It puts an end to the incessant copying and re-issuing of hardcopy rotas each time an amendment is made.

The central filing part of the intranet is dedicated to storing general information, which can then be accessed by everyone – the Christmas party photos and practice company logos, for example.
