Using the Vision® Text Messaging System (VTMS), practice staff can easily and quickly send text messages from their computer terminals using a keyboard straight to a mobile phone.

Sending texts using the VTMS has additional advantages over texting
from a mobile. Practice staff can send worming reminders to all relevant clients by employing the ‘send multiple messages’ option, which sends the same message to many users; they can send out reminders of appointment times by writing a template message, which the computer then personalises by merging, in a similar way to mail merge letters.

It is an excellent way for practice staff to keep in touch with vets who are out on the road; if a vet is busy driving or dealing with a client, then he or she can pick up a message when its safe and convenient to do so. Texting is much cheaper – a call to a mobile phone can easily cost in excess of £1.00 but sending a text via VTMS costs an average of 12p per message.
Sending a text message is an accurate and reliable form of communication: concise directions can be sent via text, as can phone numbers, laboratory results and clinical notes. Generally there is also better network coverage for text messages, which usually get through to areas where there is poor voice reception.
